CLIFF HOUSE
COMPLETED
FUNCTION: Penthouse
AREA: 1000 m2
LOCATION: Sentosa, SINGAPORE
An exercise in materiality and context, the 1000m2 penthouse sits on the idyllic edge of Sentosa, with a view of Lazarus and St. John Island.
At the heart of the house is a centerpiece made of Basaltina, a type of volcanic stone, that wraps the service areas of the house, containing and forming the staircase that joins between floors. Starting at the foot of the staircase, the feature is a narrative of the journey from quarried slab to polished stone, told through its finishes.
Hand-chiseled irregular slabs of solid slabs of stone gradually transition to form rectilinear stratified layers of split-faced and honed slabs reminiscent of the quarries from which they are sourced. The cliff face meets the Palissandro classico floor, like coastal sands transitioning out towards the Singapore Straits where the Penthouse looks out towards.
The 1000sqt 5 bedrooms penthouse house, features amenities such as study rooms, a gym, a swimming pool and kitchens. The hard, natural edges of these chiseled basaltina walls are a foil for more informal shapes, such as the gym and movie room. These spaces are enclosed in curved glass and copper-toned stainless steel where the polished surfaces reflect its texturally diverse intriguing surroundings. Inside the stainless steel shell, sound absorption panels, speakers and projection are fully integrated into the walls of the pod, creating a truly immersive audio-visual experience.
